Abstract:
The purpose of this article is to examine the stages of moral education of children with an emphasis on Islamic sources. According to the Islamic narrations, the stages of the child’s moral education are divided into three stages. Using a descriptive-analytical method, we have extracted the moral values that can be taught at each stage from Qur’anic verses, Islamic narrations and the practical life of innocent Imams and have explained them. According to the results, it is possible and necessary to teach children some moral values at every stage of their education, considering religious resources and taking into account the level of their mental development. Some factors, such as choosing a worthy spouse, quality of nutrition and healthy communications indirectly affect the child's moral education and will prepare the ground for the formation of the child’s good traits. One shall teach favored moral values to the child, in the other stages, such as educating the spirit of struggling against oppression, keeping promises, cultivating the spirit of charity, educating truthfulness, secrecy, teaching modesty and chastity, cultivating the spirit of thanksgiving, etc., based on religious sources, and in accordance with the child’s characteristics and needs.
